Jalandhar, March 29, 2024: Jalandhar formal MLA West Sheetal Anugral who recently joined BJP after resigning from AAP, finds himself embroiled in the controversy after the disclosure of his close relations with the UK based alleged drug kingpin Manish Thakut alias Mani Thakur
An old picture UK kingpin, Manish, alias Mani Thakur has surfaced on the internet sometime back but gone viral again on social media after Anural joined BJP the other day. Notably, the drug cartel run by Manish, alias Mani Thakur of Jalandhar (now in UK), was busted by Jalandhar police in March this year.
Sheetal Angural along with Jalandhar MP Sushil Kumar Rinku switched allegiance to the BJP on March 27, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
It has also been reported in a section of media that Angural tried to pressurise CP Jalandhar to help his freind Mani Thakur but did not get response. It has also been reported that Angural approached CM Bhagwant Mann who flatly refused to help reffering zero tolerence policy of AAP govt towards drugs.
But Sheetal Angural strongly denied all these allegations but admitted that Mani Thakur was known to him and worked for AAP in 202 VS polls. He sadi he did not know what Thakur was doing in UK as he had gone there 10 months before. Talking to a TV channel and a national news paper he admitted that he is very much in the viral picture but claimed that Mani Thakur had joined AAP and helped him during the 2022 Assembly election campaign.
Angular claimed that Mani Thakur went abroad 10 months ago and they have not been in touch.
He added that he was not the only one who was helped by Mani Thakur during the election campaign in the past. He added that Mani Thakur also helped the AAP minister and an Akali leader.
Claiming his innnocence in the drug related case ,Angural said that he was ready for any probe in the matter.
Despite the clarifications of Angural, BJP and particularly Punjab BJP must be under attack from AAP and other opponents during Lok Sabha polls for allegedly shielding drug trade related persons.
