Namdhari sect head Uday Singh honours MP Satnam Singh Sandhu on his Rajya Sabha nomination
Under Modi government, Sacrifices made by Sri Satguru Ram Singh Ji in Nation's First Freedom Struggle remained unsung for 167 years, gets much deserved recognition now

Bhaini Sahib (Ludhiana), 29 March – Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chandigarh University Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu was on Friday felicitated by Namdhari sect chief Satguru Uday Singh during his maiden visit to the sect’s headquarter at Bhaini Sahib, about 28 kilometres from Ludhiana since his nomination to the Parliament.
On the occasion, the spiritual leader of the Namdhari community, Satguru Uday Singh honoured Sandhu, who is also the convener of the Indian Minorities Foundation IMF), for getting nominated to Rajya Sabha by the President. Sandhu is the first ever Rajya Sabha member to be nominated to the Upper House of the Parliament from Chandigarh.
Satguru Uday Singh congratulated Satnam Singh Sandhu for his nomination as MP to Rajya Sabha and gave blessings for his success in future as well.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognising and honouring the invaluable contribution made by Satguru Ram Singh Ji in India’s freedom struggle, leaders of Namdhari community said, “In a significant departure from politics of appeasement, under Modi government, Satguru Ram Singh – the pioneering force behind ‘Kuka Movement’ has received long-awaited and much-deserved honour on his bicentennial birth anniversary in form of Commemorative Currency named after him under Modi government. Heroic deeds of Namdhari Sikhs during India’s freedom struggle have received well-deserved tribute and long-awaited recognition in the form of Commemorative Stamp after a long gap of 142 years.”
Members of the Namdhari community also thanked PM Modi for the historic opening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor in 2019, declaration of December 26 as Veer Baal Diwas to commemorate the martyrdom of the sons of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, steps to enhance connectivity to Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara, the celebration the Prakash Parvs of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji & Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the exemption of GST on Langar and the provision of facilities for Sikh pilgrims to travel to Pakistan.
In his address Member of Parliament, Satnam Sandhu described Namdhari Sect, a source of simplicity, truth and humility.
He said with the blessings of Satguru Uday Singh Ji, over 25 lakh Namdhari Sikhs are working for the welfare of humanity across the world and doing a commendable job to help for the well-being of humanity, women empowerment, drug abuse and economically weaker sections of the society.
Remembering the immense contribution made by the Namdhari sect during the freedom struggle of India to free the country from the yoke of British imperialism, he recalled the sacrifice of the Kuka patriots in 1872, when the 66 Namdhari Sikhs stood in front of British cannons.
He said the sacrifices made by Kuka martyrs under the leadership of Satguru Ram Singh Ji (the founder of Namdhari Sect) will remain an inspiration who had used non-cooperation as a political weapon against British Rule successfully.
Sandhu said Satguru Ram Singh Ji had not only contributed to the freedom of the country but had played an important role to eradicate the social evils from the society with initiatives for simple wedding ceremonies, widow remarriage and mass marriages with minimal expenditure.
Basant Singh, a follower of the Namdhari sect from Delhi, said, “Satguru Ram Singh Ji has made significant contributions in India's freedom struggle. The Kuka movement initiated by him was the first non-cooperation effort against British rule, inspiring Indians to boycott foreign goods and services peacefully. Recently, the government honored Satguru Ram Singh Ji with special currency after 152 years, which is appreciated by the entire Namdhari community. PM Modi's consistent support, respect and affection for the Sikh community is evident in his participation in our celebrations. Moreover, he has empowered Indian youth like never before, needed for the country's progress. As the entire Namdhari community has gathered to celebrate Holla Mohalla, likewise it’s imperative for youth to unite and contribute to India's progress, and encourage more young people to join the mission for Viksit Bharat.”

Harkirat Singh, resident of Ludhiana, said, “Namdhari community has always contributed to the development of the country. If we talk about the Kuka movement, the Namdhari community was the first to contribute in the freedom struggle. When the British occupied our country after Maharaja Ranjit left the kingdom. Satguru Ram Singh Ji comes from an ordinary family. Namdhari community is standing shoulder to shoulder with PM Modi to fulfill his vision of making a developed India, be it in the country's economic system, sports, education or any other field.
Lovepreet Singh, Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur said, “The opening-up of Kartar corridor was one of the best works done by Modi government for Sikh community. Apart from that there are Expressways and Bharatmala project is connecting the nation like never before. Modi government released a commemorative coin of Satguru Ram Singh ji on his bicentennial birth anniversary which is a remarkable development as not many people know about the tremendous contribution and sacrifices of Namdharis in India’s freedom struggle. Modi government undertakes such initiatives which not only revive rich history and culture of India but make youth and people in general aware about it. Namdhari sect followers and youth are making significant contribution in Nation Building.”
Delhi-based Senior Artist, Dilraj Kaur, Namdhari sect follower, expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for the issuance of a special commemorative coin on the occasion of the bicentennial birth anniversary of Satguru Ram Singh, a gesture highly appreciated by the Namdhari Sikh community. She said, “PM Modi’s efforts have brought greater awareness about Satguru Ram Singh among the people. It is under his leadership that the government acknowledged the tremendous sacrifices of Satguru Ram Singh in India’s freedom struggle after being overlooked for 152 years. Moreover, PM Modi has taken significant initiatives for the Sikh community understanding their sentiments, and the community is highly grateful for them.”
