3 States Inter-state meeting held to prevent use of drugs, money during LS elections
Muktsar, May 17, 2024: A meeting of senior civil and police officers of Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana was held under the Chairmanship of Harpreet Singh Sudan, Deputy Commissioner Muktsar here on Friday evening as per the instructions of the Election Commission to prevent use of money and drugs in the Lok Sabha elections.
Officials from Sirsa in Haryana and Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar districts in Rajasthan participated in this meeting. Akhilesh Kumar Yadav, Expenditure Observer, Bathinda specially attended this meeting.
Welcoming all the officers, Harpreet Singh Sudan, DC said that often criminals hide from one state to another state after committing wrongful acts during elections. Apart from this, attempts are made by bad elements to influence the elections through money, mussel power or drugs, but with mutual cooperation, such bad elements can be suppressed easily.
He said that district Sri Muktsar Sahib borders both Haryana and Rajasthan. The district shares a border of 15.3 km with Haryana and 7.5 km with Rajasthan. During today's meeting, information exchanged was provided by the three states for interaction.
DC said that during the Rajasthan elections which were held in the first round, full support was given by Punjab. Similarly, Haryana will also be supported for the 6th round of Haryana elections and in the last round on June 1, he expressed the hope of getting full support from Haryana and Rajasthan.
SSP Bhagirth Singh Meena said that 19 inter-state checkpoints and 9 inter-district checkpoints have been established by District Sri Muktsar Sahib Police. Of these, 7 interstate and 9 inter-district nakas are under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. He said that after the implementation of the MCC, 151 FIRs have been registered in the district under NDPS and Excise Act. Cash worth Rs 33,88,000 has also been recovered in the district.
Assistant Commissioner of Excise Department Vikram Dev Thakur said that his department is also keeping vigilance continuously.
In the meeting, Mr. Abhishek Kumar Yadav, Expenditure Observer for Bathinda Lok Sabha Constituency, emphasized the need for better coordination in the Lok Sabha elections and said that all the stakeholders should work in the elections with full responsibility to complete the election process in a fair and peaceful manner.
On this occasion ADC(G) Sanjiv Sharma, SDM Malout Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, SDM Sri Muktsar Sahib Ms. Baljeet Kaur, Abhay Singh SDM Dabwali, Alok Pal Singh DETC Sirsa, Dharminder Yadav Tehsildar Sangria, Sumer Singh SP Dabwali, Fateh Singh DSP Lambi, DSP Malot Pawanjit, Karan Singh CO Sangria were also present.
