Ludhina (BB) :- Gunning for Chief Gurdwara Election Commissioner H S Brar, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Paramjit Singh Sarna on Monday accused Brar of playing a “partisan” role in the run-up to the September 18 SGPC polls. Referring to Brar as “SAD (Badal) worker”, Sarna alleged that the Chief Gurdwara Election Commissioner was “playing into the hands of the ruling party and paying scant respect to the chair he holds”. “He is under obligation of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and is now working like a SAD (B) poll agent,” Sarna alleged. Accusing Brar of facilitating the enrolment of fake voters in the ensuing SGPC polls, Sarna said that increase in number of voters from 18 lakh to 38 lakh in just 15 days, including over 10 lakh on the last day of enrolment, clearly substantiated the charge against Brar. “Going by his figures, every city and village in Punjab would have seen a queue of an average of 800 voters to make a total of 10 lakh enrolments on the last day. But no one had seen such queues; not even media reported about this rare enthusiasm,” the DSGMC chief remarked. Asked whether he or his party had complained to the Union Home Ministry, Sarna replied in the affirmative. “But, they (UPA government) fear bloodshed in Punjab and thus express the inability to take on the Badals head-on,” he claimed. Sarna claimed that he had even written about “all the wrongdoings” of Brar to the Prime Minister and even personally handed over a complaint but to no avail. Asked to explain the label of “Congress agents” used for him and his partymen, the DSGMC chief maintained that he saw nothing wrong in seeking support from any political outfit except the SAD (B). “The SAD was formed in 1920. Prior to this, several Sikhs were and even today are members of CPI, BJP, Congress, and other political outfits. The Akali Dal does not have the sole right of membership of Sikh community. If SAD candidates can seek support from BJP men, why can’t Panthic Morcha or non-SAD (B) candidates seek support from other parties, including the Congress,” he remarked. Taking a dig at the Badals, Sarna said that they might try to frame rules which forbid non-SAD(B) members from voting in the SGPC polls
