In an endeavour to provide opportunities to service personnel and veterans, an Army Placement Mela was organised by Black Arrow Brigade on
at Mamun in Pathankot on Saturday.
About 250 veterans and over 100 service personnel attended the same. The aim of the Placement Mela was to educate Retirees & Veterans on the functioning of Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO), various career options available and guidance on acquisition of requisite competencies for a second career; apart from facilitating a common platform for valuable interaction between Employee and Employer. A large number of Indian Armed Forces personnel retire from active service very early in life with the transition commencing as early as 36 years of age. These personnel, having acquired certain proficiencies during their service career, need to re-orient their skills and attitude for second career post-retirement/release.
Addressing the august gathering, the Chief Guest, Commander, Black Arrow Brigade highlighted the need for the private sector industries to understand and appreciate various roles that a service personnel / veterans experience through during their entire service career, which include that of a manager, supervisor, inventory holder and many more at various levels. He emphasised upon the fact that such arrangements benefit both, and the industry would get disciplined and dedicated manpower while the Veterans would get an opportunity for an appropriate second career. During the event, Director, Army Placement Node, Jalandhar also briefed all Retirees &Veterans on the role and functioning of AWPO.
