Majha : SAD-BJP gets 16, Congress 9 Chandigarh (BB) : The ruling SAD-BJP alliance showed an unexpected performance in the Majha region in the 2012 general assembly polls of Punjab, capturing 16 assembly constituencies out of 25, whereas the Congress succeeded to grab only nine assembly seats. In Amritsar East Assembly constituency, the Congress infighting paved way for the BJP greenhorn candidate Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu to win the seat with a comfortable margin defeating her Congress rebel candidate Simerpreet Kaur Bhatia. The Congress official candidate, Sunil Dutti secured the third spot with 25964 votes. In Amritsar North constituency BJP sitting candidate Anil Joshi who won the seat second time in a row got 62374 votes whereas his Congress rival Karmamjit Singh Rintu secured 45394 votes. In Amritsar West constituency which was earlier with the Congress was again retained by the Congress candidate Raj Kumar. However in Amritsar Central which was earlier with the BJP now went to Congress candidate Om Parkash Soni who got 47357 votes whereas his rival BJP greenhorn candidate Tarun Chug got 34560 votes. Whereas Amritsar South was again recaptured by the sitting candidate of SAD, Inderbir Singh Bularia who got 48310 votes whereas his rival Congress candidate Jasbir Singh Dimpa got 33254 votes, making Bularia win this seat with a margin of 15056 votes. Attari constituency was recaptured by the sitting SAD candidate, Gulzar Singh Ranikey who got 56112 votes whereas his rival Congress candidate Tarsem Singh, former IRS officer got 51129 votes. In Baba Bakala constituency, SAD candidate, Manjit Singh Manna retained this seat bagging 60244 votes as his rival Congress candidate Ranjit Singh got 31019 votes. Amritsar Ajnala Assembly constituency was again captured by the sitting SAD candidate Amarpal Singh Bony who got 55846 votes whereas his rival Congress candidate Harpartap Singh Ajnala got 54609 votes. In Rajasansi constituency, Congress candidate Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria defeated his rival SAD candidate Vir Singh Lopkey with a margin of 1084 votes. Whereas Amritsar Majitha seatwas again captured by the SAD candidate Bikram Singh Majithia who got 73944 votes whereas his nearest rival Congress rebel candidate Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lali got 26363 votes. The Congress official candidate Shalinderjit Shally could barely manage to get 7629 votes. In Amritsar Jandiala constituency SAD greenhorn Baljit Singh Jalalusma won the seat securing 57611 votes whereas his rival Congress candidate Sardool Singh Bandala got 50321 votes. In Tarn Taran Assembly constituency, SAD candidate Harmit Singh Sandhu has won the seat while defeating his nearest rival congress candidate Dharmbir Singh Agnihotri. Khadoor Sahib Constituency of Tarn Taran district was won by the Congress greenhorn candidate Ramanjit Singh Sikkhi defeated SAD veteran candidate, Ranjit Singh Brhampura who tasted defeat for the first time after two decades. Khemkaran border constituency of Tarn Taran district was won by the SAD Candidate Virsa Singh Valthoa who defeated his nearest Congress rival candidate Gurchet Singh Bhullar. The border constituency Patti of Tarn Taran district was recaptured by the sitting SAD candidate Adesh Partap Singh Karion who won this seat for the fourth time in a row defeating his rival Congress candidate Harminder Singh Gill with a narrow margin of 46 votes. BJP sweeps all three seats in Pathankot district Pathankot: There was a mood of celebrations and jubilations among the BJP workers on Tuesday as the party bagged all three seats of Pathankot, Sujanpur and Bhoa in Pathankot district. Pathankot Deputy Commissioner cum District Electoral Officer Sibben C said while the counting of votes was completed in a peaceful manner and no untoward incident took place during the counting. Punjab BJP president and party candidate for the Pathankot seat Ashwani Sharma defeated his nearest rival Raman Bhalla of the Congress by 17848 votes and the congress rebel contesting as an independent got 23706 votes securing the third position among 12 candidates contesting the seat. Ashwani Sharma, was projected as a candidate for the Deputy Chief Ministership by the BJP. Jubilant supporters of BJP distributed laddos and played Holi throwing colour at each other. In Sujanpur, the BJP candidate and sitting MLA Dinesh Singh Babbu defeated his nearest rival Naresh Puri by margin of 23677 votes, a Congress rebel, who contested as an independent. In Bhoa Reserve Assembly seat, Seema Kumar of the BJP defeated Babalbir Ram Fatehpuri of the Congress by a margin of 10805 votes. BJP president Ashwani Sharma who won the Pathankot seat said, \'\'The fresh mandate in the favour of the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab was due to the peace and prosperty in the state during the last five year rule of the government.\'\'
