Mohali, October 23, 2016: Sitting comfortably at 153 for 3, New Zealand slipped to 180 for 7, losing the five wickets for just 27 runs in the third One Day International match against India at the IS Bindra Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here on Sunday.
Leg break bowler Amit Mishra accounted for Ross Taylor (44, 4x4s, 1x6, 28.3 overs) and Luke Ronchi (1, 30.2 overs). Right arm medium fast bowler Umesh Yadav snapped the wickets for Corey Anderson (6, 29.4 overs) and Tom Latham (61, 3x4s, 1x6, 31.5 overs). Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Michell Santner (7, 34.2 overs).
However, James Neesham and Matt Henry bolstered the New Zealand innings as they stitched a valuable ninth wicket partnership for 84 runs. James played an aggressive innings of 57 which came in just 47 deliveries as New Zealand staged a smart recovery having scored 285 all out in 49.4 overs. Neesham during his stay at the wicket sweetly timed seven boundaries.
Henry. who gave full support to Neesham, remained not out on 39 which came from 37 balls and contained four fours and one six.
Umesh Yadav (3 for 75), Kedar Jadhav (3 for 29), Jasprit Bumrah (2 for 52) and Amit Mishra (2 for 46) were the Indian wicket takers.
Earlier, Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field in the day/night match. Black Caps openers Martin Guptill and Tom Latham put on 46 runs for the opening wicket stand. India got their first breakthrough as Umesh Yadav dismissed Guptill, who was declared leg before wicket. The visitors lost the first wicket in 6.4 overs. Guptill's contribution was 27 from 21 deliveries and he hit two fours and two sixes.
Captain Kane Williamson joined Latham carried their total to 80 with a 34-run partnership for the second wicket. Kedar Jadhav met his first success as he trapped Williamson leg before wicket. Williamson made 22 in 27 balls and hit three boundaries. New Zealand were 80 for 2 in 12.5 overs,
A valuable partnership for New Zealand was between Latham and Ross Taylor. They applied themselves well and played good cricket to realise 73-run association for the third wicket stand. Leg break bowler Amit Mishra foxed Taylor who was smartly stumped by MS Dhoni. Taylor departed after playing a 57-ball 44 which contained four well struck boundaries and one soaring six.
As Taylor returned to the pavilion at 153-3 in 28.3 overs, New Zealand lost four wickets in four overs which jolted the visitors' innings. After Taylor, Anderson (29.4 overs), Ronchi (32.2 overs) and Latham (31.5 overs) were dismissed and New Zealand slipped to 169-6.
Mitchell Santner (7) and Tim Southee (13) were also dismissed without cheaply and New Zealand were 199 for 8 in 37.5 overs.
Then James Neesham was given full support by Matt Henry. They virtually frustrated the Indian bowlers by putting on 84 runs for ninth wicket stand and the visitors had a respectable total of 285.
