Martyr Udham Singh

The Indian government will take up the issue of retrieving the belongings of Martyr Udham Singh with U.K. government. The issue will likely be taken up with British Prime Minister during his visit to India in November, 2016, informed Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India to Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday.
During resumed hearing of the PIL, jointly filed by advocate H.C. Arora and Karanvir Thamman (of Banur), on Monday before the division Bench of Justices S.S. Saron and Lisa Gill, Jain orally brought it to the notice of the Court that although the matter stood closed in 2004, when similar request by Indian Government was declined by U.K. Government on the ground that pistol, knife and diary etc. of Martyr Udham Singh were the weapons or other items used in crime, which cannot be returned as per policy of British Government, yet the Government of India shall take another initiative to retrieve these belongings.
He gave a broad hint that this matter may be taken up during visit of British Prime Minister to India in November, 2016.
The Additional Solicitor General of India therefore, sought adjournment of proceedings till January, which was granted. The PIL shall now be listed on January 17, 2017.
