Punjab CM Badal during Sangat Darshan at Village Talwan in Nakodar Assembly Segment.
Talwan (Nakodar), May 26, 2016: Brushing aside the media reports about the concern shown by the state BJP leadership on law & order situation in its core committee meeting, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal categorically said that Punjab was the most peaceful state in the country.
While talking to the media persons on the sidelines of his Sangat Darshan program on the second day here in the Nakodar Assembly constituency, the Chief Minister said that the law & order situation was absolutely fine barring few petty incidents of crime, which was a common phenomena and occurred almost in every state of the country. Mr. Badal however said that he was personally monitoring the law & order situation on day to day basis in the state and have already issued clear cut instructions to the top brass of the police to ensure security and safety of every citizen of the state. The Chief Minister said that he was being updated regularly by the state DGP on the current scenario of law & order. He emphatically said that peace, harmony and brotherhood were on the top of his government’s agenda.
Asked to comment on the possibility of revival of terrorism in the state especially in the wake of recent arrest of two militants, the Chief Minister outrightly ruled out any such possibility saying that terrorism could never be revived without the support of people. He said the people of Punjab have already paid a heavy price for a decade long militancy in the state and would never allow the darkest period to revisit, which retarded the process of development and prosperity and pushed back our most prosperous state into an era of backwardness.
Replying to another question regarding the resumption of work on the Bist Doab Canal project, the Chief Minister said that the Punjab & Haryana High Court has vacated the stay granted by National Green Tribunal (NGT) restraining Punjab from cutting any tree for infrastructure without its permission. He said that the recent decision of High Court has paved a way to re-start work on this prestigious project at a cost of Rs.1000 crore in full swing to ensure flow of water in the canal from July 1.
Answering another query regarding Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme, the Chief Minister said that the scheme was by and large very successful barring few teething problems in its initial stage, which would be gradually resolved. He said that the state government had already started a helpline 104 to help the beneficiaries of this scheme or to redress their complaints, if any.
Replying to another question about electoral prospects of Aam Adami Party during the Assembly polls- 2017, the Chief Minister said that AAP has no base in the state and its popularity is now at the lowest ebb with its dubious role having been exposed on the issue of river waters. Mr. Badal said that the bubble of its popularity had already burst and surely it would be wiped out from the electoral scene.
Addressing the people during the Sangat Darshan program, the Chief Minister said that Congress was the only party which was inimical to the interests of the Punjab from day one as it has completely ruined our state socially, economically and politically. He recalled how it imposed emergency in the country to muzzle the voice of press, orchestrated 1984 riots against Sikhs in which lacs of Sikhs were brutally massacred. Afterwards, the anti-Sikh Congress brutally attacked Sri Harmandar Sahib, the agony and anguish of these dastardly and inhuman acts were still itched afresh on the psyche of Sikhs, for which the entire Sikh community would never forget and forgive the Congress for its misdeeds.
Outlining the importance of Sangat Darshan program, the Chief Minister said that this unique model of direct communication between people and administration is very effective for prompt resolution of problems/hardships faced by the common man.
