Chandigarh March 24: Residents of Karnal have a reason to cheer as Haryana Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal will inaugurate the new Passport Service Centre at Head Post Office in Karnal on March 25, 2017.
While stating this today, Regional Passport Officer, Mr Munish Kapoor said that the function would be presided over by Member of Parliament from Karnal, Mr Ashwani Chopra. He said that with this facility, the people need not visit other parts of the State to get their passports prepared . passport service project was an ambitious programme of Government of India and was being run in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode under the National E-governance Scheme. It’s among one of the important people centric services being provided by the Government. He said that with a view to make passport services within an easy reach of the people, the Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Posts, has taken a significant decision to utilize the main post offices located in various states of the country so as to provide better passport facilities to the citizens.
Mr Kapoor said that now the applicants could apply online on the passport portal and get an appointment in the Passport Service Centre . He said that special emphasis was being laid on using best practices of Information Technology in passport delivery.
He said that 50 appointments would be given to the concerned applicants in the Passport Service Centre every day from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. He said that M/s Tata Consultancy Services has been engaged for this project with a view to provide better services to the people. Apart from 38 Passport Offices in the country, 89 Passport Service Centres were functional wherein applicants were being provided best available facilities.
