Mice Menace: Feed on patients’ hands in ICU of Faridkot govt hospital
Faridkot, March 29, 2017: (By Devanand Sharma) In a bizarre incident, three patients in Intensive care Unit (ICU) of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital (GGMCH) were allegedly injured after being bitten on their hands by mice.
The patients Gurpiar Singh of village Deviwala on bed number 3, Harpreet Kaur of village Gumti Khurd on bed number 6 and another patient were bitten on the fingers of their hands while under sedation in the ICU allegedly during night. The injured fingers were later bandaged by the hospital staff.
When asked, Medical Supreintendent Dr JP Singh initially laughed away saying there was nothing unusual about it as such things normally happen in households as well. But when confronted with facts, he said he would get the incident enquired.
ICU incharge Dr Ravinder Garg denied the incident.
But an injured patient’s relative Joginder Pal alleged that they had brought the matter to the notice of the concerned nursing staff but to no avail.
The contract of ICU’s upkeep is with a private firm but no effective measures ballegedly are in place to contain the menace of mice roaming about inside the hospital.
