New Delhi, April 26, 2017: BJP emerged a clear winner in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections by wining 184 wards out of the total 272, the results of which were declared on Wednesday.
The ruling AAP was relegated to a humiliating second position as its candidates won from only 46 wards.
The Congress could manage victory in only 30 wards.
Polling in two wards was cancelled due to deaths of candidates.
BJP was way ahead of the rivals AAP and Congress in MCD North, MCD South and MCD East.
Interestingly, ruling AAP could not manage to win even from 67 wards even as it created electoral history in 2015 Delhi Assembly election by winning 67 seats out of the total 70.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated BJP for the victory and said his government looked forward to work with BJP-controlled MCDs for the betterment of Delhi.
AAP leadership attributed its dismal show to alleged EVM tempering.
Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken has resigned from his post owning moral responsibility for the abysmal performance of the party.
