Ferozepur, May 27, 2017: Mounting debt coupled by recurrent losses in agriculture as well as pressure on the part of the Cooperative Society and bank to repay the loan, besides the stress on the family front, allegedly forces the farmer to commit suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at Jhoke Hari Har village, on Ferpzeur-Muktsar road today morning.
As per the information, Kuldip Singh, 45, son of Gurcharan Singh and owner of 7 acre land in the village Joke Hari Har, was under debt since long. He also tried to switch over to crop diversification to come out of the debt with organic farming besides cultivation of vegetables and working on custom cultivation of land.
Father of the deceased Gurcharan Singh informed that Kuldip Singh has to pay Rs.8 lac to the Cooperative Society, Rs.7 lac and Rs.5 to Commission Agents. He was also mentally upset because of the heavy payable amounts. Today morning, he had gone to the fields where he committed suicide after consuming poisonous substance. When he did not turn back, the family members found him lying unconscious on the ground. He died on way to hospital.
The deceased is survived by parents, wife and two boys.
