Hamilton , May 28, 2017 :
Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, has beaten 46 other cities across the world to take the top spot for quality of life and best place to live.
Wellington has overtaken many other more ‘desirable’ cities like Zurich, Melbourne and Copenhagen to be declared the “most liveable city” in the annual global study conducted by the Deutsche Bank in Germany.
Edinburgh, capital of Scotland that otherwise prides itself on its quality of life and is often compared with Wellington for its culture, was adjudged as the second best.
This year it was the first time Deutsche Bank included a ranking of the quality of life in cities around the world. The ranking was based on eight sub-indexes compiled by crowd-sourced information database Numbeo, which create a broad picture of what it is like to live in different cities.
The factors used in this survey were: Purchasing Power, Safety, Health Care, Cost of Living, Property Price-to-Income Ratio, Traffic Commute Time, Pollution and Climate.
Using this data, Deutsche Bank studied 47 cities and rated Wellington as the “most liveable city” in the world. The bank’s annual report, "Mapping the world's prices" was released earlier this month.
2017 has turned out to be a good year for Wellington in several other ways also.
This year Wellington has also been rated:
- British Daily Telegraph's second cleanest capital
- Daily Telegraph's second cleanest air quality
- One of National Geographic's top six food cities
- Lonely Planet’s best destination to drink beer
Earlier in 2010, Lonely Planet named Wellington as the fourth best city in which to travel in the world.
