Jalandhar, July 21, 2017: In consonance with the steps being taken by the Punjab Government to provide online services of vehicle registration, issuance of driving licenses and other core services of the state transport department at the doorsteps of the common man, the district administration today organized workshop for imparting practical training pertaining to deliver online services to people.
Presiding over the workshop, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr. Gurmit Singh Multani said that as per the decision of the state government the SDMs were authorized for providing services of Vehicle Registration, issuance of driving licenses and other core services of the transport department. As the state government was going to implement this new administrative mechanism in the coming days, the employees of SDM offices belong to the four districts were acquainted with practical training about online portals Saarthi and Vahan meant for providing online services to the common people, said ADC adding further that NIC experts today held one day workshop at DAC Complex Jalandhar for this purpose.
Mr. Multani said that in today’s workshop employees of the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDM) offices from Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and SBS Nagar districts today have been imparted practical training pertaining to functioning of `Saarthi` and `Vahan’, the online portals meant for providing these services online to the people in hassle free and transparent manner. He further said that with the implementation of this new setup anyone would be able to apply online to get these services. The registration of commercial vehicles would remain with the Regional Transport Authority offices while the other services including online registration of vehicles, issuance of driving licenses etc would be provided by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) offices. He further informed that as per the decision of the state government the SDMs would also be overall in-charge of the automotive driving tracks.
