Ferozepur, August 18, 2017 : The Civil Hospital as well as private hospitals has to refer the patients to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, DMC or CMC Ludhiana or PGI Chandigarh due to lack of availability of super-specialized healthcare facilities in this border town and prestigious project of PGI Saellite Centre announced four years ago during the fag end of UPA-II is changing its location in papers.
In certain cases, the patient doesn’t even reach the referral hospitals situated at a distance places and succumb to injuries on the way. In the absence of any advanced medical facilities available in Ferozepur, the people especially the weaker sections, are facing lot of inconvenience.
A local activist, Dewan Chand said, the centre has announced two more projects – one at Sangrur and the other at Himachal Pardesh – it would have been better if the projects announced first should be given priority in completion of the project or simultaneously the monitoring of all the projects should be closely watched.
Lastly, the available land with the Industrial Training Institute situated adjoining the existing Civil Hospital campus was earmarked and later on, despite visit of PGI team to ascertain the feasibility of the project and finding short of the land for its expansion, another piece of land was decided to the allotted for PGI Satellite Centre. Now it is proposed that the site is being shifted to the outskirts of the town near Malwal so that emergency cases do not suffer due to traffic congestion in the town and to get relief from moving at a distance places.
Sources said, the case stands referred to higher authorities and formal approval is yet to come. The mutation of land the basic need for the project, process could only be started after the official approval.
