800 Ludhiana schools to be covered under Income Tax awareness drive
Ludhiana, September 12, 2017: As part of the Operation Clean Money programme of Government, the Income Tax Department has decided to hold a tax awareness drive from September 14 covering about 800 schools of Ludhiana district.
The information was given by Binay Kumar Jha, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana during the news conference in which he apprised the media about the new initiatives being taken by the Income Tax Department for facilitating the interaction of tax payers with the department.
During this drive, each school would be visited by one of the officers/officials/tax professionals/taxpayers/families of employees and retired employees, for the following activities:
Awareness regarding Income tax would be given to school students.
Pledge of “Swacch Bharat, Swacch Dhan” would be administered to the students, staff and employees of the Schools .
A tax-tree called the “Apnakar tree” would be planted in each school, to be adopted by them, for imbibing the value and role of taxes in national development, and the need for becoming diligent taxpayers.
This drive is expected to cover over 5 lakh school students. This initiative would be the first ever taxation outreach to school students on such a large scale, and perhaps the largest single direct outreach about Income Tax in India, and in the world.
Jha also informed that on the occasion of Income Tax Day on July 24, 2017, a website www.apnakar.com for the Citizens of the region was launched; which is a one stop platform to facilitate communication of the taxpayers and citizens of Ludhiana region with the Income Tax Department.
This is another step to establish communication with the citizens, and provide better taxpayer service and encourage voluntary tax compliance by taxpayers of Ludhiana Region.
The Department shall also provide a link called “Student’s Corner” on the Apnakar.com where the students would be able to continue to communicate with the Department, upload pictures of the growing “Apnakar tree”, their experiences about spreading tax awareness in their families and society, success stories and suggestions, so that “Tax Champions” can be selected and recognized and awarded from among the students.
During the conference, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-2, Jagtar Singh, Addintional Income Tax Commissioners Rohit Mehra and Manav Bansal were also present.
