Major General (retd) Suresh Khajuria
Gurdaspur, September 17, 2017: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced the name of Major General (retd) Suresh Khajuria (64) as its candidate from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll scheduled to be held on October 11, 2017:
The decision to field Khajuria was taken in consultation with the Gurdaspur district unit of the party and its leader, volunteers from Majha region.
Associated with AAP since 2012, Maj Gen Khajuria is a local resident of Pathankot falling within the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha. He has had a distinguished career in the armed forces. The AAP leadership is of the view that due to its choice of a local candidate unlike rival Congress and Akali Dal, the party stands a fair chance of winning this bypoll.
“We appeal to the electorate of Gurdaspur to support AAP candidate in the ensuing election and we particularly appeal to the ex-servicemen of the region to support him as neither the Congress nor the BJP has fulfilled the long pending demand of 'One Rank-One Pension' of the ex-servicemen community,” said a party statement issued on Sunday.
Date of filing nomination of Maj Gen Khajuria will be announced shortly.
