Gurdaspur, September 18, 2017: Deputy Commissioner cum District election officer, Gurdaspur Mr. Gurlavleen Singh Sidhu has made it clear that the VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) machines would be used in all assembly segments for Gurdaspur parliamentary by poll, to be scheduled for voting on October 11.
Out of 9 assembly segments , Gurdaspur, Dinanagar , Dera Baba Nanak, Fathergarh Churrian , Batala and Kadian falls in Gurdaspur district, whereas Sujanpur, Bhoa and Pathankot belongs to Pathankot district.
Mr. Sidhu has also said that a special campaign has been launched to aware the voters about the use of their franchise on VVPAT. Under this campaign mock polls would be organized for polling staff besides educating the voters about the use of these machines through various communication methods. " VVPAT allows voters the possibility to verify that their votes are cast as intended and serve as an additional security barrier in voting system " he added.
Deputy Commissioner has also informed that 15,17,436 voters would elect the new member parliament from Gurdaspur as the voting would take place on October 11 from 8 AM to 5 PM on 1781 polling stations.
