Gurdaspur, September 19, 2017: Observers deputed by the Election Commission of India for free and fair Gurdaspur parliamentary by poll reviewed the preparations made by the civil and police administration by Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts.
Today presiding over the meeting of officials here, General observer Dr. Hari Om (IAS) , N.B.S. Rajpoot (IAS) and Police observer Amit Kumar Sinha (IPS) have asked the officials to ensure the implementation of model code of conduct in true spirit and manner. Deputy Commissioner cum District election officer Gurdaspur Gurlavleen Singh Sidhu , Mrs Neelma Deputy Commissioner Pathankot , Harcharan Singh Bhullar SSP Gudaspur, Upinderjit Singh Ghumman SSP Batala and Vivek K Soni SSP Pathankot were also present in the meeting.
General observers have put the emphasis for proper training to polling staff on VVPAT to ensure smooth polling on October 11. Besides that they also asked the officials to provide special care to physically disabled and aged voters on polling station besides ensuring availability of drinking water and electricity.
Talking about the security arrangements for poll, Police observer Amit Kumar Sinha has asked the police officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to avoid any kind of drawback as the whole constituency falls alongwith the international border. He asked them to chalk out a special plan for installing police nakas in sensitive areas besides deputing Para Military forces at these areas.
