Five-Day Baba Sheikh Farid Mela begins after religious invocations

Faridkot, September 19, 2017: After the recitation of Sukhmani Sahib and performing ardas at Tilla Baba Farid the five day Baba Sheikh Farid Festival begins here today. In this fair, literary seminars, conventions, cultural programs, exhibitions, sports competitions and sports competitions would be organised and Kavi Darbar, Musshaira, Qawali performances would also be held.
Like every year, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Sufi saint of 12th Century Baba Sheikh Farid Ji, the festival began in the morning after performing religious ceremonies at Tila Baba Farid. Head of various Religious and Educational Institutions, Mr. Inderjit Singh Khalsa, Deputy Commissioner of the District Mr. Rajiv Parasher, Prof. Sadhu Singh Member Lok Sabha, Faridkot, Mr. Roshan Lal Goyal, Secretary, Red Cross, Mahip Inder Singh Sekhon, Surinder Gupta Social Worker and other district officials, and a large number of devotees were also present on this occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, Inderjit Singh, Head of Religious Educational Institutions and Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Rajiv Prashar said that every person should take guidance from Baba Farid Ji's high values and teachings and work for the welfare of mankind. Congratulating the people on Baba Farid's Aagman Purb they appealed to the people to participate in all programs peacefully and with full respect.
District and Sessions Judge inaugurates five day book exhibition
In the memory of Baba Sheikh Farid Ji, a five day book exhibition is being organised by People's Forum Bargari at Government Brijindra College. It was inaugurated by Hon'ble Satwinder Singh Chahal District & Sessions Judge. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Faridkot Mr. Rajeev Prashar, senior police officer Dr. Nanak Singh, Parveen Kala Samaj Sevi, Khushwant Singh Bargari President People's Forum Bargari were also present. About two and a half million books have been displayed in this book exhibition. On this occasion, the Hon'ble District and Sessions Judge Shri Satwinder Singh Chahal appealed to the people to take maximum advantage of the book exhibition and appealed to the youth that they should be read good literature to be successful in life. In this book exhibition many books have been displayed about the life and hymns of Baba Sheikh Farid.
'Kaafila a Virasat' march organised in the city
Various themes presenting a glimpses of the legacy of Baba Shaikh Fareed Ji, the great saint of 12th Century, a heritage walk started today from the local Nehru Sports Stadium which marched through the various parts of the city.
The Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rajiv Prashar flagged off the heritage march at Nehru Sports Stadium. A large number of people stood on both sides of the roads to see the glimpses of the passing Kaafila-e-Virasat, showcasing the Punjabi heritage, ancient instruments, folk songs, wedding ceremonies, band shows of different youth clubs, rural kitchens, village figures, beautifully cambered camels and horses. Apart from this, youth from Himachal, Haryana, Odisha, Assam, Rajasthan and other states also participated in the walk and exhibited their traditional dresses and art of their state. The march ended up at after reaching local Darbar Ganj complex.
Vice Chancellor Raj Bahadur inaugurates Virasat Exhibition at Darbar Ganj
An exhibition was organized to showcase Punjabi heritage in the local Darbar Ganj Ground on the first day of the Mela. It was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Dr. Raj Bahadur. In this ancient heritage exhibition, old pots, handicrafts, old coins, agricultural tools, and other rare papers etc. were displayed.
Folk Song festival organized at Darbar Ganj
A folk song competition was also organized at Darbar Ganj in which local students and other non professional people participated with great enthusisum.
Blood donation Camp organised in the memory of Baba Sheikh Farid Ji
The various local social organisations and NSS Unit Brijindra College organised a blood donation camp in the memory of Baba Farid Ji at the Brijindra College Campus. Shri Satwinder Singh Chahal District & Session Judge alongwith Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rajiv Parasher and SSP Nanak Singh inaugurated the blood donation camp. 161 units of Blood were collected during the camp.
