Gurdaspur, October 6, 2017: The BJP-SAD candidate for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll has demanded deployment of para-military forces in the constituency as he allegedly apprehended misuse of the police and civil administrative machinery in the constituency by the Congress government in the state.
In a complaint made to the Chief Election Commissioner of India and Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab on behalf of Salaria, his poll agent Ravi Gupta alleged widespread misuse of official machinery by the Congress government in threatening the political opponents in the constituency.
Accusing the Congress government of violations of Model Code of Conduct, he demanded videography of the polling booths due to his alleged apprehension of rigging and transfer of the police and civil officials belonging to Gurdaspur.
In his complaint, Salaria also mentioned the names of police and civil officers including Executive Officers and Tehsildars
Naming the Congress MLA Sukhjinder Randhawa, he alleged the local police was being misused to threaten political opponents. The officials of Rural Development and Panchayat Department were allegedly behaving similarly with the Sarpanches belonging to SAD and BJP. in the constituency.
