Chandigarh, October, 7, 2017: Apna Punjab Party (APP) president Sucha Singh Chhotepur on Saturday gave a call to Gurdaspur voters to vote for a candidate with clean image.
Though he refrained from naming the candidate but his responses, at a news conference here, dropped enough hints of his tilt towards the Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar.
He dismissed recent reports suggesting that he might join Akali Dal. Chhotepur, however, admitted senior Akali leaders Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and Janmeja Singh Sekhon had visited him.
Commenting on the bypoll, he said there was direct contest between Sunil Jakhar of the Congress and Swaran Salaria of BJP-SAD. The AAP was nowhere in the scene. Nobody from AAP contacted him, he added when asked.
Chhotepur deflected questions seeking his comments on the performance of Amarinder government during 6 months of its rule so far.
Sources had earlier told babushahi.com that supporters of Chhotepur have already become active in support of Jakhar. But he has been avoiding coming out openly in support for political reasons. The Congress leaders are learnt to have held secret parleys with him but nothing concrete emerged out.
