Fatehgarh Sahib, October 17, 2017: It is a matter of great concern that the rapidly increasing pollution level in the State is affecting our comming genrations as Punjabi Youths, who were earlier known all over the world for their solid physique are now loosing their identity. This has become a threatening issue and we have to take effective steps to control it, said Kahan Singh Pannu, Chairman Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) at the public interaction at Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh today. Large number of Industrialists, students and NGOs participated in the event.
While addressing the media, Pannu said that the objective of the event was to draw the attention of the people, especially the youths and to make them aware of air and noise pollution which is causing many diseases, particularly in the festive season and to encourage them to celebrate Green Diwali.
He said that the level of pollution in Mandi Gobindgarh has already crossed the danger marks and during Diwali Festival it may soar too fatal heights. The increasing pollution is not only harmful for the children and aged person but also very harmful for pregnant ladies and for the unborn children.
He warned against the burning of paddy stubbles as it affects not only the fertility of the fields but also killed the friendly insects.
He also appealed that we have to follow the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court and Supreme Court which they have issued for fireworks on the occasion of Diwali. The Board authorities also exhorted to all the students to persuade the people of the area for Environmental Protection.
Jaspreet Singh SDM Amloh , university Vice- Chancellor Dr.Virinder Singh and Vice-President Er. Sandeep Singh also addressed.
On this ocassion Pannu also inspected and appreciated the Green Solar Car project made by the students of Engineering and Technology of the university.
