Governor Punjab VP Singh Badnor honouring Harcharan Bhullar , SSP Gurdaspur with President Medal
Phillaur (Jalandhar), October 23, 2017: Describing cyber crime as a new challenge before the statePolice, the Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore today expressed hope that in continuation of its glorious legacy the Punjab Police would soon overcome this challenge.
Addressing the gathering during passing out parade and investiture ceremony here today, the Governor recalled the glorious tradition of the state Police to withstand every challenge.
Badnore said that though the cyber crime was new domain for the state Police but he was hopeful that they would meet this challenge efficiently. He said that for meeting this challenge cyber crime centre must be upgraded along with ensuring professional training to the police force on scientific lines.
The Governor said that the responsibility of Police force to maintain law and order was manifold adding that only a well trained and well equipped Police force could discharge its duty effectively.
The role of police in today’s social scenario requires skills not only to maintain law and order but also to deal with problems arising out of rapid socio economic, socio-political and socio-cultural changes apart from technological development, he said while recalling the services rendered by the state Police during the black days of terrorism in Punjab.
Striking an emotional chord with the families of Police officers awarded the medal posthumously for their gallantry deeds, the Governor said that this honor was just an expression of gratitude towards these families. He said that these brave hearts had sacrificed their lives for the sake of unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country. Badnore said that the country would ever remain indebted to these heroes for their supreme sacrifice.
Congratulating the medal recipients and the probationary officers, the Governor said that they were lucky enough to get training from this more than century old training institute. He said that this premier academy has a rich tradition and value. Badnore said that this academy was the oldest in the country and has produced great Police officers like Ashwani Kumar.
Earlier, The Governor, accompanied by Director General of Police, Suresh Arora, also took salute from an impressive parade led by probationary DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu.
Later, Director General of Police (HRD) Chatopadhyay thanked the Governor for sparing his valuable time for this function.
Earlier, Director of Academy Anita Punj welcomed the Governor to the academy.
Meanwhile, eight probationary DSPs, who have been trained at this Academy along with 450 Constables including 100 Lady Constables, who are passing out after completing training at different Training centers located at JahanKhelan, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, and Patiala took part in the passing out parade.
The Governor also bestowed upon President’s Police Medal for Gallantry to three officers, Police Medal for Gallantry to 13, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to 19 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service to 139 officers. The recipients included 10 DGPs, six ADGPs, 27 IGPs, seven DIGs, 24 SSs P/Comdt./AIG, nine SPs, nine DSPs, 29 Inspectors, 23 Sub Inspectors, 19 ASIs, eight Head Constables and three Constables.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police, Praveen Kumar Sinha, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajinder Singh and Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa was also present.
