Chandigarh, November 21, 2017: Rahul Kalra and Bharat Bhushan, third semester students from Computer Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments of Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran have won Gold in 200 metre and 100 metre races, respectively in the under 19 category at the 2nd National Rural Olympics Games 2017-18 held at Bhopal.
Organised by Indian Rural Olympic Association, registered under Indian society Act 1860, the National Rural Olympics seek to promote Indian rural games and sports in India and abroad. It also aims to promote international games in rural areas of India including Athletics, Football, Chess, Skating, Badminton and Taekwondo among others. Indigenous games that formed a part of the event included Tug Of War, Gulel, Gilli Danda in addition to a host of others.
Commenting on their achievement both the students expressed happiness at being part of the unique concept of National Rural Olympics. Stating that the experience would inspire them to continue working on their fitness and readiness for similar events in the future, both the students thanked their faculty and institution for constant encouragement and support in terms of provision of excellent sports infrastructure that helped them practice and hone their athletic skills.
Lauding the students Mr Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran and Mr Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal said, “We are proud of our student achievements and hope that it will inspire their fellow students at the institution. Participation in such competitions encourages them to expand their abilities, both mental and physical, while inspiring them to get over any limitations they might place on themselves while seeking to excel in all fields.”
