Jalandhar, December 07, 2017: Saluting the great martyrs, brave serving and veteran soldiers for their valour on the Armed Forces Flag Day, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that this historic day gave us an opportunity to re-affirm our solidarity with the armed forces and to recognize the services of ex-servicemen.
Paying floral tributes to the martyrs and brave soldiers of our country in a function to commemorate the Armed Force Flag Day Punjab State War Memorial, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was a fact that every soldier who joins the Armed forces has a firm determination to sacrifice his life for the sake of nation. Mr. Sharma said that serving the country by donning a uniform was really a matter of great pride and satisfaction for every individual.
Recalling the stellar role of Indian Armed forces, the Deputy Commissioner said that they have been on the forefront for defending the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country besides guarding its borders while performing their duty. He said that countrymen enjoyed their sleep knowing well that the brave soldiers were safeguarding borders while giving their duty. Mr. Sharma called upon the people to salute the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice and courage.
Exhorting the people to contribute voluntarily and generously towards the Flag Day fund, the Deputy Commissioner said that it would be utilised for the noble cause of the rehabilitation of war widows, disabled defence personnel and ex-servicemen. He further said that it was a humble contribution and token of respect towards the outstanding services rendered by our valiant soldiers who zealously guarded our borders around the clock. Mr. Sharma said that this was a humble but befitting tribute to the stellar role of Indian armed forces in protecting the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country.
Later in his address, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 91 Sub Area Major General Sanjeev Bajaj also paid homage to the serving and retired Officers of the Indian Armed Forces. He said that the Indian Army has specially appointed Colonel (Veterans) at Jalandhar to immediately redress the problems faced by the veteran Army officers and soldiers. He also announced that Indian Army was duty-bound to safeguard the interests of these brave hearts, who have given their productive years of life to the nation.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries District Defense Services Welfare Officer Major Yashpal Singh (Retd.) said that it was a solemn occasion to pay respect to the brave soldiers for their heroic deeds. He also said that last year Rs 27 lakh was collected as flag day fund from the district.
On the occasion major contributors for Flag Day fund were also felicitated by the Chief guest.

Manmohan Singh, Vice President of Board Brigadier (Retd.) AS Minhas, Colonel HS Kooner, Chairman of CT Group Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi and others.
