Nawanshahr, December 07, 2017: Nawanshahr has been selected to implement the project "disposal of municipal solid waste disposal project by the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company.
The town will set an example in cleanliness, claimed Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar while addressing th workshop organised by the PMIDC on " Swatchh and Swasth Nawanshahr" here on Thursday at DAN College of Education for Women.
The DC exhorted the all sections of the Society to come forward to make the cleanliness drive into a mass movement. He asked the city residents to dedicate 10 minutes daily to clean 10 meter area and make aware the ten other people to adopt the practice. " The cleanliness of the surroundings for a healthy living is a must and we should make it a routine habit to ensure health and hygiene", said the DC
"The Municipal Council has been striving hard to make ‘Clean Nawanshahr’ project a big success. For this, 31 Rickshaw Rehries have been procured for door to door collection of garbage. Two hundred large dustbins have been arranged to install on the city roads at a distance of 500 meter each. Two thousand small dustbins would be given to the city households to segregate the dry and wet garbage. Apart from that, Municipal Council is working on a proposal of cleaning of city in the night to avoid any problem to the residents in the morning" said MC Chief, Lalit Mohan Pathak ( Ballu).
Resource person from PMIDC, Naresh Kumar said that a total of 100 pits had been constructed at city garbage dump to dispose off the disposable garbage while the other recyclable material would be segregated and sold out to earn revenue. He said that the Nawanshahr Model of Cleanliness, would soon be followed by the local bodies in Punjab.
Vinod Bhardwaj, president, DAN College, Minakashi Sharma, Secretary and the management members Surinder Mohan Tejpal and Varinder Sareen and MCs, among others, were present on the occasion.
