DC Mansa, Mr. Dharam Pal Gupta presided as the Chief Guest over the National Energy Conservation Day celebrations, held at Mansa by Talwandi Sabo Power Limited.
Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner made the students aware of the benefits of energy conservation. He also made them aware of the potential of hard-work, honesty and courage by sharing numerous success stories of world renowned personalities.
He informed the students how poor children who carved a secured niche for themselves at world-map despite being born in poverty driven families.
“Without any financial aid, Wilbur brothers not only made an airplane with sheer determination and hard work. On the other hand a highly qualified man—Samuel—who studied from Harvard University failed to make any breakthrough on the same project,” the deputy commissioner said.
He pointed out that the children need to find the same determination and hard work in themselves without which they won’t be able to reach anywhere.
He narrated another incident wherein the renowned international swimmer, Michael Phelps, won gold medal with his strong willpower and his commitment towards continuous hard work.
He said that there is no substitute of hard work and most of the time financial aid and monetary help becomes secondary. Event was also graced by the presence of District Education Officer, Subhash Mittal, Chief Operating Officer of TSPL, C.N. Singh and Head HR, Debabrat Mishra.
To spread mass awareness on importance of energy efficiency and conservation TSPL has been celebrating National Energy Conservation Day since 2014 onwards in partnership with Education Department, Mansa. TSPL conducts a district level quiz and felicitates winning students.
Two hundred eleven students appeared in the quiz out of which a team of two appeared winner in each category of middle, high and secondary. Twenty seven students clinching top three positions were rewarded cash prizes of Rs.22,500/- and certificate of merit. Consolation prizes were also given away to other 9 non-position holders in each category.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of TSPL and encouraged students to conserve energy by each and every possible method. The event culminated with a vibrant cultural performance of school students.
