Chandigarh, December 17, 2017: Vigilance Bureau, Punjab on Sunday nabbed a Deputy Jail Superintendent, Jail Line Officer and a prisoner of Mansa Jail red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000 cash and a bank cheque of Rs. 86,200 allegedly in lieu of a favour to a prisoner..
An official spokesperson said Jail Line Officer Sikander Singh Mann and prisoner Pawan Kumar Incharge of jail canteen were nabbed red-handed on the complaint of Ravinder Kumar of Kurukshertra district.
The complainant approached the VB with a complaint that his brother Gorav Kumar, a prisoner in Mansa jail assisting the canteen incharge, had been thrashed by the Deputy Jail Superintendent, Gurjeet Singh Brar.
In his compliant, he alleged that the alleged accused official was demanding Rs. one lakh from his brother for giving him relaxation in jail canteen and asked Gaurav to give him more money which had been deposited in his bank account by the families of the other prisoners.
After verifying his information, the VB team laid a trap and the accused Jail Line officer and prisoner Pawan Kumar were arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000 cash and cheques bearing amount of Rs. 86,200 from the accused in the presence of two official witness.
He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Deputy Jail Superintendent, Jail Line Officer and prisoner at VB police station, Bathinda. Further investigation was on.
