Media fraternity condemns FIR against Tribune reporter by UIDAI
Chandigarh, January 7, 2018: Media fraternity is up in arms against registration of a case against The Tribune reporter and the newspaper for publishing a report on loopholes in Aadhaar system.
The case was registered in the Crime Branch of Delhi police on the complaint of a deputy director of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDIA).
Chandigarh Press Club (CPC) condemned the action and announced to hold a protest march on January 8.
The CPC termed the action of the government agency as a crude attempt to gag the media over exposure of weaknesses in government system
Joining the condemnation, the Editors Guild of India also expressed deep concern over registration of the FIR.
Earlier in the day, Media Club Patiala condemned the UIDAI action of lodging a police complaint as an act to suppress the independent media voice.
