Mohali, April 17, 2018: The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Mohali, Punjab has sentenced Suresh Kumar Lohan, the then Branch Manager, LIC, Branch Office, Nabha, District Patiala to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 38,500, Kamla Lohan, private person to undergo three years RI with fine of Rs. 11,000, Rajpal Singh, Conductor, Haryana Roadways to undergo three years RI with fine of Rs. 10,500 and two private persons Sanjay Kumar Dhingra and Hans Raj Verma to undergo three years RI with fine of Rs. 10,500 each.
CBI had registered case on a complaint from Manager (Personnel &Industrial Relations), LIC of India, Divisional Office, Chandigarh, wherein it was alleged that during the period August 2004 to March 2006, a fraud was committed at the LIC Branch Office Nabha, District Patiala by Suresh Kumar Lohan, then Branch Manager, Branch Office Nabha and several others who entered into a conspiracy with each other.
In furtherance of the said conspiracy, the accused persons cheated LIC of India to the tune of Rs. 88,12,704 by fraudulently making false payments to 17 survival benefit claims and 5 maturity claims to the persons who were not the actual policyholders. The accused also deleted the claim payment history of various policies in the computer system and created vouchers in the name of persons other than the policyholders.
The chargesheet was filed in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Patiala (now at Mohali) and after the conclusion of the trial, the Special Court convicted the accused persons.
