During 18-22nd April, the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33-38oC (sub-mountainous and central zone) and 34-38oC (south-west zone), whereas, minimum temperature is expected to remain between 17-22oC (sub-mountainous zone) 17-220C (central zone) and 17-23oC (south-west zone). The maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to remain between 55-68% and 22-45% in sub-mountainous and central zone and 54-66 % and 20-40% in south-west zone, respectively during these days.
The agroadvisory board of extension specialists of PAU, Ludhiana has given the advice not to irrigate or apply spray to any crop during these days (18-20April).
In wheat crop, the ear heads of gulli danda plants should be removed/ cut with the sickle or any other method, before they produce viable seeds. The adoption of this practice will significantly decrease gulli danda in next season wheat crop.
For the management of early shoot borer in sugarcane, apply 10 kg granules of Regent/Mortel/Rippen 0.3 G (fipronil) before the setts are covered with soil by planking or use Tricho-cards having 20,000 eggs of Corcyra cephalonica parasitized (seven days old) by Trichogramma chilonis per acre at 10 days interval.
Complete sowing of summer moong during the period.
Onion thrips should be checked by spraying 250 ml Malathion 50 EC in 80 litres of water per acre. Do not spray during the 7 days before harvest.
As weather is becoming congenial for downy mildew of muskmelon during these days, give 3-4 spray Indofil M-45/ Kavach and give 2 sprays of Ridomil MZ @ 500 g or Aliette @ 600 g per acre in 200 litres of water at 10 days interval.
Fruit borer attack in tomato crop can be checked by spraying 30 ml of Fame 480 SL or 600 ml of Carina 50 EC or Coragen 18.5 SC @ 60 ml per acre or 100 ml of Sumicidin 20 EC in 100 litres of water per acre. Observe waiting period of 3 days after the spray of Fame.
To protect the tomato crop from early blight spray the crop with Indofil M-45 @ 600 g/acre in 200 litres of water.
For management of fruit drop in citrus spray Bavisitin 1.0g or Tilt 1.0g or Ziram 2.5 g per liter of water and for thrips in citrus, spray of Fosmite 50 EC @ 2.0 ml per liter water can be done.
To manage anthracnose in grapes; spray Bavistin @ 1.0 g per litre water.
During this period fruit fly may attack the peach fruits, fix PAU fruit fly traps @ 16 traps per acre.
As feed intake is reduced due to effect of high temperature, hence, protein level in the concentrate mixture need to be increased which can be done by increasing oilseed cakes by 5-7 per cent. Take adequate steps for calf management and feed colostrum within 1-2 hours of the birth without waiting for expulsion of the placenta. To prevent tick infestation, spray the sheds/barn and animal regularly with Butox liquid @ 2 ml per litre of water and repeat after 10 days.
