Wheat lifting picks up in Faridkot

Faridkot 18 April, 2018: lifting process of procured wheat has picked up in the mandis of Faridkot. Around 10483 MT wheat has been lifted taking up the total figure up to 33259 MT till today. Babushahi team visited the grain market on Wednesday, talked to commission agents and observed that the lifting was in progress.
Farmers and commission agents were facing tough time due to none lifting of procured wheat. As there was no space available in mandis, farmers were impatiently waiting to bring their produce. They were also anxious due forecasts of bad weather in the state. Weather forecast predicted by IMD Regional Centre, Chandigarh, says that the thunderstorm activity may start in Punjab from late April 19 and increase on April 20 covering many parts of Punjab. Thunderstorm and rainfall accompanied with strong winds is likely in Punjab during the next 48 hours as per reports.
No lifting was taking place in Kotkapura as Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued stay orders after one of the contender contractors challenged the allotment of tenders to his competitor. It is reported that the matter has been resolved and lifting may start by tomorrow noon as per sources.
Procurement of wheat is going hassle free in Punjab as per reports received from various districts. Babushahi team talked to various officers and stake holders to get information regarding this matter.
85739 metric ton has been purchased in Jalandhar
Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said that since the starting of procurement of grains in the district 97871 metric ton wheat has arrived in the mandis across the district out of which 85739 metric ton has been purchased by the various agencies. Meanwhile, today 49006 metric ton of wheat had arrived in the district out of which 43464 metric ton was purchased by the various procurement agencies.
189130 metric ton purchased in Fazilka
DC Fazilka Isha Kalia told that 234092 MT wheat has arrived in mandis of the district, out of which 189130 metric ton purchased and more than Rs 52 crore payments has been sent to banks.
Wheat lifting picks up in Faridkot
Meanwhile, Director of Food & Civil Supply Anindita Mitra told that lifting has started in Faridkot and is going on. Today 10483 MT has been lifted taking total figure to 33259 MT. One tender was sub judice which has been now finalised. And one contractor has been blacklisted for not performing, added DFS Anindita Mitra.
CM Captain Amarinder Singh is keeping eye on the whole operations; he has already directed the Principal Secretary and Director Food and Civil Supplies to take all possible steps to ensure smooth and hassle-free procurement operations. He has also directed the Civil and Police Administration to monitor the progress of procurement and lifting of wheat on a daily basis to ensure the completion of the job within the stipulated time-frame.
