BJP leaders submitting memorandum to Governor VP Singh Badnore at Chandigarh on Thursday
BJP alleges political conspiracy behind Phagwara clash, urges Guv to form SIT
Chandigarh, April 19, 2018: Punjab BJP alleged that Phagwara clashes and the violent incidents that followed it, were a part of a larger political conspiracy to incite sectarian violence ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state.
A state BJP delegation led by Rajya Sabha MP and state party president, Shwait Malik on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Punjab Governor, VP Singh Badnore, asking him to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
The BJP leaders urged the Governor to “issue a directive to Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh to call an all-party meeting to deliberate ‘Joint Initiatives’ for establishing peace and soothing the scarred relationship of all sections of society”.
Malik was accompanied by former state President Prof Rajinder Bhandari, & Ashwani Sharma, general secretary (organization) Dinesh Kumar, state party general secretaries Jeewan Gupta and Kewal Kumar and state party secretaries, Vineet Joshi and Subhash Sharma.
Maintaining that it was due to the intense efforts of the BJP and social & religious organizations that the clashes and violence had stopped, the BJP leaders rued the fact that investigation by the local police was limited only to the incidents of violence.
“They are not probing the angle of political conspiracy. Political Conspiracy to incite caste / section based clashes to polarize the voters for coming 2019 Lok Sabha Elections”, the memorandum said.
Meanwhile, talking to the media outside Raj Bhawan, Malik said, “Clashes among different sections of society on 13th of April 2018, followed by more clashes and violence in the next few days, has badly damaged the society and scarred the harmonious relationship among different sections of society”.
