Ludhiana, May 14, 2018: A retaining wall of the Gill Chowk flyover passing through the heart of the city collapsed on Sunday night.
Fortunately, it was reported timely resulting in halting the traffic over it. There was no report of any accident or anybody getting hurt.
The officials of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL) rushed to the spot.
Superintending Engineer, Roads and Bridges, MCL, Dharam Singh said that the exact cause of the collapse was being studied. "Probably the wall was eroded due to problem of rats in the area." he added.
There was no damage done to the flyover road but it would be opened for traffic only after doing repair of the collapsed portion and ensuring safety, he said.
Meanwhile, allegations were rife that the MCL staff had been sounded about the wall's erosion some months ago but not attention was paid to rectify the problem. The damage was not done overnight, said local residents.
