Shahkot, May 28, 2018: The voting in Shahkot assembly bypoll was on under sizzling summer conditions here on Monday as 25% voters exercised their right to franchise till 11 am.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Varinder Kumar Sharma was reportedly visiting the entire constituency to supervise voting.
He said that voting was on in a peaceful manner and there was no incident of any electoral malpractice and violence was reported.
SSP Jalandhar Rural, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also claimed foolproof security at all polling booths. Paramilitary personnel were deployed at 96 vulnerable polling booths.

As many as 21 patrolling parties were keeping constant vigil on the polling process so as to ensure free and fair election, he added.
Long queues of voters were seen as the voting began in the morning but as the mercury arose the queues thinned.
Main contesting candidates including Naib Singh Kohar of SAD and Hardev Singh Laddi of Congress cast their votes. Both candidates predicted their victories by convincing margins.
Prominent environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal also cast his vote. He termed the water issue as quite important in this bypoll.
