Chandigarh, June 17, 2018. Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Ex. BJP MP, Additional Solicitor General of India and a Member of the Law Commission of India has urged the Central Government to increase the number of Central Government Health Services Dispensaries in Chandigarh from one to at least five.
In a letter to the Union Health Minister, Sh. Jain said that there are a total of about 31,000 Central Government employees, both sitting and retirees who are entitled for medical assistance from the CGHS dispensary in Chandigarh. But there is a total staff of only about 22 employees, working day and night to attend to the huge rush of patients in this dispensary.
Sh. Jain said that during the previous NDA Government in 2003, when Smt. Sushma Swaraj was the Union Health Minister, she had agreed to increase the number of CGHS dispensaries in Chandigarh from one to five. However, after the Congress Government came to power in 2004, it did not do anything in that direction.
He said that one dispensary for 31,000 employees is highly inadequate. He said, when our Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi Ji is trying to extend the benefit of medical facilities to each and every citizen of India, it is essential that in Chandigarh there are at least five CGHS dispensaries so that the senior citizens and other such Central Government employees, both sitting and retirees can avail all those facilities.
