Amritsar, June 18, 2018: Member of Parliament from Amritsar, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, in continuation to his train inspections, on Monday conducted surprise checking of Amritsar-Nagpur express, Amritsar-New Delhi Shatabdi, Amritsar-Pathankot passenger, Amritsar-Nanded express, Amritsar-Haridwar Jan Shatabdi.
During the checking the on duty Deputy Station Master Rajesh Sharma was found asleep in the office of Station Master.
Aujla informed that he arrived at the station at 3:30 am to check the improvements since his last visit. He said that he had warned the officials and companies handling the cleaning process to mend their way but no improvement was found. "What to talk of the local passenger trains, premier trains like Shatabdi and Sachkhand were found in a very messy condition with stinking toilets and dirty rakes," said Aujla.
Toilets were found blocked in all passenger trains due to lack of cleaning and water filling. He said that the concerned contractor doesn't pay any heed to the matter as he knows the loopholes in the system. He informed that the contractors were fined and blacklisted multiple times but they change the firm names and reappear on the scene earning times more than they are fined. Aujla said that he can't even define the condition of pantry cars in the trains which fall under the control of the railway authorities.
Aujla said that he shall be meeting GM Northern Railways and Minister of State for Railways and get the responsibility fixed in this matter.
Replying to a media query he said that the system has been deteriorating since long and he can't guarantee a quick change but he shall be doing his duty responsibly and will try to discipline the concerned.
To a question related to the non availability of the hotline at Amritsar Railway Station, S. Aujla said that he wasn't aware of this matter but he shall talk to the concerned authorities and get it resolved very soon.
