Nawanshahr, June 19, 2018: In continuation of the drive under Mission Tandrust Punjab District Food safety wing Nawanshahr on the directions of Varun Rujam Commissioner Food and Drug Administration, punjab and Amit Kumar , Deputy Commissioner, inspected and challaned as many as eight meat outlets situated at backside sabzi mandi, Banga Road and Karyam Road Nawanshahr.
The team comprising Manoj Khosla Assistant Commissioner Food, Sangeeta Sehdev Food Safety officer, Sulinder Kumar Health Inspector, during inspections found the conditions of the shops very pitty and unhygienic. They were directed to get food safety registration/licence in compliance of conditions of part IV of schedule IV of Food Safety Act.
Khosla told that the method of slaughter like halal and jhatka should be mentioned in the shop. The premises should be hygeinic and sanitary conditions should be maintained, shop should have proper arrangements of hot water, fly catchers to keep the area fly proof and pest control measures. No live birds should be allowed inside or adjacent to the meat shop. The door of the shop should have black film, walls and floor should be crack free. Medical fitness certificate of all workers handling meat should be kept and personal hygiene of the workers is also mandatory. Dustbins should be clean, properly covered and foot operated. Storage conditions should be well maintained by installing refrigerator in the shop.
Sangeeta Sehdev ,Food Safety Officer, told that strict action would be taken against the errant shops as inspite of repeated warnings and appeals they were not maintaing proper hygeine and following other conditions of Food Safety Act.
"All shops have been challaned and cases will be filed in the court of adjudicating officer, against these offenders in which fine upto one lakh can be imposed for not maintaing hygeinic conditions", she added.
