Fatehgarh Sahib, July 20, 2018: To take the stock of the sudden increase in the water level of Sirhind Choe passing through the residential area of Fatehgarh Sahib and Sirhind, Deputy Commissioner Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon along with officials of drainage department and other officials inspected the site of Sirhind choe from Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib to Sirhind railway bridge.
He said though the water level has suddenly increased in choe due to heavy rain in hills but the choe water has not entered any residential area and now it has started decreasing. He directed the drainage department to remove wild grass and silt from the choe immediately. He directed XEN Drainage, Xen Panchyati Raj, and all EOs to initiate the cleanliness drive of all canals, tunnels, bridges, ponds, drains, distributaries and siphons in the district.
He said there is nothing to worry as all the necessary steps, precautions and arrangements at administrative level have been made to meet any eventuality during floods.
It is worth mentioning that Municipal Council Sirhind president Sher Singh had submitted a memorandum few days ago to initiate desilting of Sirhind Choe otherwise it may cause flood like situation in Fatehgarh Sahib and Sirhind area as it passes through residential areas, but DC has expressed inability due to lack of funds, but now the water level has increased and the road linking Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib with Gurudwara Jyoti Swarup Sahib is under knee deep water causing anxiety among residents.
