Islamabad, August 17, 2018: The newly elected National Assembly of Pakistan will elect new leader of the House on Friday Agust 17, 2018.
Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, who is the chairperson of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is set to be elected as the Prime Minister candidate as Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has reportedly withdrawn support to Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), reported Daily Pakistan.
The election will be held at 3.30 pm. The elected PM is likely to be sworn-in on Saturday.
The report said that Shehbaz Sharif was out of the race as the PPP, having 54 seats, decided not to support him. Sharif's PML-N has 81 seats in the National Assembly.
The PTI and its allies have together 175 seats which comfortably surpasses the simple majority mark. The PTI is the single largest party in the National Assembly with 151 seats.
