Holiday in Punjab not under Negotiable Instrument Act
Chandigarh , August 17, 2018: Contrary to the expectations of the people and employees of the Banks and other commercial establishments, the August 16, 2018 order of the Punjab Government regarding the closure all the offices and educational institutes to mark the respect to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, did not mention that the public holiday was under section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act , 1881. It means the Banks and Commercial establishments are supposed to be remain open in the state.
When contacted Punjab CS told Babushahi.com that the state could not do so because it has fully utilized the prescribed limit of the 17 holiday covered under the Negotiable Instrument Act , 1881.
Now only the Central Government could have declared August 17, 2018 as holiday under Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 in Punjab.
