A Nawanshahr school treasures its association with the first PM of India
The school building was constructed under “ Kar Sewa” by Sant Baba Sewa Singh

Sant Baba Sewa Singh Government Primary School, Naura, situated at Banga- Garhshanker Road in SBS Nagar district has the proud privilege of treasuring glorious history of its association with eminent personalities. The eminent religious personality Sant Baba Sewa Singh ( Quila Sri Anandgarh Sahib) had got the school building of his native village constructed under “ Kar Sewa”. The school was named after Sant Baba Sewa Singh. The school was started in 1950. The first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru had visited the school in November 1953. Pandit Nehru visited the village to inaugurate the Community Centre and the stone put to mark the occasion on the school wall witnesses the cherished memories of the school associated with the great dignitary.
According to Hans Raj, Head Teacher of the school, the first Prime Minister of India visited Naura on the invitation of Captain Shiv Singh of Indian National Army, who belonged to village Naura.
“The school staff, with the active cooperation from the philanthropists here and abroad has been striving hard to maintain the sanctity of the glorious history of the school. The village has abundant number of NRIs, who have been extending their wholehearted support for the development of infrastructure facilities in the school”, said Hans Raj.
Enumerating the financial assistance provided by the philanthropists here and abroad for the welfare of the school, the Head Teacher, Hans Raj, said that US based NRI had provided requisite equipment for setting up smart class room , NRI Chain Singh Bola donated Rs.one lakh, which was spent on painting the school, the Family of Sardar Jagat Singh donated furniture , the family of former Sarpanch, Kesar Singh donated inverter. Sarpanch Amritpal Kaur, her husband Sukhjinder Singh and another philanthropist Surinder Singh Khalsa made notable contributions for getting the playground ready for the children.
Subhash Batish from UK and Baldev Singh from Italy also made financial contribution to the development of the school.
The school had also been provided the facility of water cooler and RO System for providing the facility of safe drinking water to the school children. Besides, the NGOs - ‘ Enjoy Club” and “ Tera- Tera Organisation’ have been providing school uniforms to the school students, who are not being covered under the government scheme.
“The school staff has also been exerting nerves to implement “ Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab” programme to ensure quality education to the school children. The staff has been making optimum utilisation of the facility of smart class room provided by the philanthropists as well as the innovative ‘e-content’ of the syllabus prepared by the state education department under “ Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab” project to make the teaching learning process quite easy, interesting and effective for the children” , said Satnam Singh Sanghera, District “ Parho Punjab , Parhao Punjab “Coordinator.
