Fatehgarh Sahib, September 11, 2018: On the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers for zila parishad and panchyat samiti elections for Fatehgarh Sahib Zila Parishad out of 10 zones in four zones falling in Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency Congress candidates were declared winners unopposed as the papers of SAD(B) and other candidates were rejected. Now there will be contest for six zones falling in Amloh and Bassi Pathana constituencies. Congress is contesting all, SAD(B) in 5 and AAP in one only.
For Sirhind Panchyat Samiti out of 15, in 6 zones Congress candidates were declared unopposed winners and one SAD(B) candidate withdrew today.
For Khera Panchyat Samiti out of 15, in 7 zones Congress candidates were declared winner unopposed. For Amloh Block Samiti out of 17, in 2 zones Congress candidates were declared winner unopposed. In Bassi Pathana Panchyat Samiti and Khamano Panchyat Samiti there will be contest in all 30 zones between Congress, SAD(B) and independents.
While talking to media persons Surjit Singh Sahi official spokesman of SAD(B) said that Congress has already conceded the defeat by getting the nominations papers of their candidates rejected on frivolous grounds. He said one of their candidates Jaspal Kaur from Hindupur zone was allegedly kidnapped by Mandeep Kaur Nagra wife of MLA Kuljit Nagra and get her nomination paper withdrew forcibly under police pressure.
On the other hand Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA refuted the allegations of getting their nomination rejected on political grounds or police pressures. He said that SAD(B) has failed miserably to field clean image candidates as their papers were rejected being encroacher on Govt. land or being defaulters for grabbing the Govt. funds. He said out of 30 zones in Sirhind and Khera Panchyat Samities in his constituency there will be contest in 16 zones and people will tell whom they support.
Meanwhile Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer said the election process is going on as per law and there is no political interference and the nominations of the candidates have been rejected as per law.
