Chandigarh, Sept, 18, 2018: Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa has suggested exchange of border land with Pakistan to resolve the issue of Kartarpur Shaib Corridor.
In a letter written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bajwa asked him to initiate bilateral talks with Pakistan proposing transfer of Dera Baba Nanak-Kartarpur Sahib corridor to India in lieu of alternate piece of land to Pakistan.
Bajwa offered this proposal as alternative of visa-free access and that it would also negate any security concerns.
The Congress MP said that land swapping arrangement like this was not unprecedented as in 1962 India had swapped land in area around Hussainiwala border in Ferozepur district of Punjab where martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were cremated by the British rulers after hanging them in the pre-Partition era.
A martyrs' memorial there is visited by a large number of Indians every year.
Bajwa told the PM that this would be a gift to the Sikhs across the globe on the historic occasion of 550th birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru Nanak Dev.
He also offered his services in clinching this noble purpose in any capacity considered befitting by the PM.
