Chandigarh, September 22, 2018: Former Indian Test fast bowler and cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh has been named as head coach at the newly-built Mahajan School of Cricket at IT Park, Chandigarh, near Durga Nursery, an initiative of former Haryana Ranji Trophy cricketer Subhash Mahajan.
The Mahajan School of Cricket which hosted number of Haryana Cricket Association inter-district matches in the recent months, will officially open on October 15 for budding cricketers. Yograj, 60, who has trained umpteen cricketers of the region along with Yuvraj Singh, Manan Vohra, Taniya Bhatia and Treyaksh Bali, will be supported by a group of certified coaches during his stint as head coach. Meanwhile, fitness training will be overseen by noted trainer Sagar Diwan. The academy offers extensive facilities apart from lush green outfield.
There are four practice wickets at the ground which include Astro turf, cemented and turf wickets. A well equipped bowling machine and use of English leather balls will add weight to the training.
The management plans to conduct weekly matches and offer innovative and modern practice regime to the trainees.
Speaking on the newly-built academy and his role, Yograj said, “I am impressed the way this ground has come up. I was amazed to see the facilities it offers. In modern day cricket, you just not need to have skills but have top class fitness level to sustain and excel. We plan to focus on these aspects. I am looking forward to my role as a coach here. Subhash Mahajan has done a fabulous job to bring up such a training facility in Chandigarh.”
