SAS Nagar, September 25, 2018: "Prepare a special plan for the repair of Link and other roads connecting the grain markets and this work should be completed on priority basis so that the farmers will not face any problem during the upcoming paddy season." These instructions were given by Smt. Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar to the officials of Public Works Department and Mandi Board during her visit to various villages of the District. She had visited more than 02 dozen villages and reviewed the situation regarding the crops affected by the rain. She had also checked the roads damaged by the heavy rains and also visited the banks of river Ghagar near village Bahori and Alamgir.
During her visit, she disclosed that she had reviewed the situation regarding damaged roads and crops and a report in this regard would be sent to State Government. She had visited village Chandiala, Paragpur, Alamgir, Bahora, Bahori, Bakarpur, Isapur, Rauni, Bhankharpur, Budhanpur and many other villages, where the paddy crop had been damaged. During her visit, villagers also told her about the problems they were facing. They said that they had not faced any loss of life but their crops had been damaged. Jeet Singh of village Bahori disclosed that crops of his village had been damaged because the banks of the river Ghagar were weak at their village and river water had entered into their fields due to weak river banks. He demanded that the banks should be strengthened so that they would not face such a problem in the future. She visited the banks of the river and instructed the officials of the Drainage Department to prepare a proposal regarding the strengthening of the banks. This proposal would be sent to the State government for the release of the required funds. She also visited the site near Alamgir where Studs installed in the river Ghagar were damaged by the flow of water. River Jharmar also falls in river Ghagar at this point. Villagers demanded that besides the strengthening of the banks of the river, Studs installed in the river should also be repaired so that river water would not enter into their village. Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials of the drainage department to immediately move forward for the completion of these two tasks.
She also instructed all the concerned officials to take necessary steps to solve the problems being faced by the people which had been occurred due to the heavy rainfall. During her visit, she had also reviewed the condition of the buildings of the schools. During this Paramjit Singh, SDM Derabasi, Balwinder Pal Singh, DRO, Gurdial Singh, CAO were also present among other officials of the various departments.
