Chandigarh, October 12, 2018: Sixth seed Kunal Anand of Delhi and top seed Sai Samhitha of Tamil Nadu clinched the men's and women's singles titles, respectively, in “The Tribune” State Tennis Championship for Men and Women (Rs.3 lakhs prize money) and “The CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament for Boys and Girls under-16 at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here today.
KuInal Anand of Delhi pulled off the biggest surprise as he toppled top seed qualifier Suraj Prabodh of Karnataka in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Kunal displayed his top form. Kunal used his big serve and powerful ground stroke throughout the match. Kunal put lot of pressure to the opponent from the beginning with his attacking game style.
In the women’s singles final top seed Sai Samhita defeated second seet Humera Shaikh of Telangana state in straight sets. Sai Samhitha was down 2-5 in the first set. Sai foughy back and won the set in tie-breaker 7-6(5). In the second set Sai maintained her momentum and took the set and match easily 6-2.
In men’s doubles final top seed Mohit Mayur and Sahil Gaware outplayed seed Ishaque Eqbal and Mohammed Fahad in straight sets 6-3,6-1. In the women’s doubles finals Sai Samitha Chandra and Humera Shaik defeated Dedeepya Sai and Kaavya Sawhney 6-4, 6-1.
In juniors Boys under-16 singles finals 6th seed Aaryan Thakur upset top seed Abhay Mohan in 3 setter match 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. In juniors Girls under-16 singles finals top seed Riya Kaushik defeated Radhika Vasudeva 6-3, 6-2.
Former Governor of Manipur, Trustee of The Tribune Trust Gurbachan Jagat was the chief guest and distributed the prizes to the singles and doubles winners and runners-up alongwith Mr. Rajan Kashyap, Patron-in-chief and Mr. Jai Singh Gill, President, Dr. Jasjit Singh, Honorary Secretary, Mrs. Bhupinder Banta Singh and Dr. Reet Mohinder Singh, Member, Executive Committee, CLTA
