Ferozepur October 12, 218: As many as 42 samples of milk, out of receipt of results of 65, against the total 105 samples collected by health department during the month of August and September 2018, have failed in the lab tests. This was disclosed by Civil Surgeon to the media persons today in the press conference.
Dr.Surinder Kumar, Civil Surgeon disclosed that the failed samples are of milk and products made from milk. Out of ten samples of milk cake (Khoya), 8 have failed. Likewise, four samples of mustard oil and 8 of fruits have failed. Out of 42 samples, 38 samples are substandard and misbranded and 4 samples as unsafe.
He said, one month’s time has been given by issuing a notice to those firms, whose samples have failed and in case they intend to go in for sample testing of second part from referred laboratory, they should contact the Civil Surgeon office.
He made it clear that in the event of no response, further legal action will be initiated. He further said, the adulterer will not be spared and the process of sampling in future would be a regular feature.
He, however, appealed to the people not to consume the coloured sweets and eat only neat and clear products.
People should restrain from consuming sweets during the festival season as the chances of adulteration are more in view heavy demand.
Inder Singh Gogia, President, NGO Coordination Society when contacted said, merely sampling and releasing report would not suffice, strict action has to be initiated against adulterer and checking should be a regular feature and not only during the festival days. The action part, whose samples are failed during the lab test, should be put on the fast track so that a strong message should go to the others in the market.
